Daddy Hero

Inspiration for the book
“Of course none of this would have happened without my beautiful wife Ashley, for being my support and partner. Laila and Liam can drive me crazy, but I hope daddy makes you proud, you’ve been a huge inspiration in my life.”
One night Devin lay awake thinking of his deceased friend Peyton. He got to work on the book that night writing word for word what he believed he’d heard from his dear friend. The next day he presented the idea to his wife and Daddy Hero was born.

Full summary
Daddy Hero is a book appropriate for parents looking for first grade books or early 2nd grade books for their children. The book is written from the perspective of a little boy who watches his dad do everyday tasks, but to him is something only his dad has the strength and ability to do. The story is the story of almost all little children observing their parents. The goal is to entertain and educate children while highlighting just how important a parent’s actions are during a child’s formative years.

Why This Book is Important Today?
Children really observe what their parents are doing and leave an impression on them so it’s important to make sure the imprint you are leaving is a positive one.
“Especially in minority communities where fathers are disproportionately not in the home because of various circumstances I thought it was important to create a positive dad figure to give an example of something I was very fortunate to have. Dads can sometimes get a bad rap in the way they are portrayed in the media (aloof, absent) and I wanted to show that there are definitely more sides to the story.” - Devin Hickson
Daddy Hero also has a secondary, but equal goal of showing minorities in a positive light. “Similar to how sitcoms like the “Fresh Prince” or “Family Matters” showed that black families are just like families from any other race or ethnicity. We have dreams and goals, and funny family sayings...we’re all people at the end of the day. While it has definitely improved I think minorities aren’t always represented in these mediums and I want my kids to live in a world where there’s more of that”.
